Various species of aphids attack birch, ash, and maple. Many of the species cause distorted, curled, or crinkled yellow leaves. Some of the species are also camouflage under a white wooly section. The damage often looks much worse than it is and in time beneficial insects will control the populations. Trees only need treatment if more than 40 percent of the leaves have activity.
