What appears to be a new insect to this state (and maybe the country), is a small orange flea weevil with an Asian genetic background that is feeing on elms. These weevils cause small shot holes and can jump; hence the name. We suspect they belong to the genus Rhynchaenus. The feeding damage is cosmetic and has occasionally been observed in the southeastern part of the state. This article was posted in Tree Insects.
